Taking flight is never voluntary.

According to the UN there have never been so many people trying to escape wars and conflict globally. The annual report of UN Refugee Relief speaks of 59,5 million refugees worldwide at the end of 2014. This is the highest number ever recorded by UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees). Many of these refugees are children. Most of them come from Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq and Somalia and flee from war and persecution. A total of 219.000 people crossed the sea in the last year alone. Thousands died during the crossing. fled is a magazine that, with the aid of a purely voluntary collective hailing from the areas of film, design, online, publishing, composition, social media, PR and others, portrays the fate of individual refugees. The magazine is dedicated to those many people who had to flee from their homes and documents the horror and the difficulties of their escape to safe territory in personal interviews. This way we want to give the vast number of refugees concrete faces and voices to convey to all people the real, cruel image of persecution, displacement and escape. There is no organization behind fled, no company, no party. The magazine has a purely documentary approach without pointing to political trends and is carried entirely by the personal commitment of the contributors.
